Power Cuts - A Serious Problem in Tamil Nadu

The dwellers of Tamil Nadu other than Chennai would be aware of the problem of Power Cuts and are seriously affected. We experience atleast 3-4 hours of power cut every day. Being the peak months of the year, its very difficult to sustain the heat without electricity.

How come Chennai has less power cuts?? Chennai has more power consumption than any other part of the state. Almost every house has an AC. Moreover the city dwellers have no conscience about the conservation of power, this adds fuel to the fire making other parts of the state as victims.

Our neighbouring state AP has less than 5% of power cuts, and Gujarat with 0% power cut. We are far from these numbers. We might soon account to 60% of the power cuts. We can hope for the betterment of this situation in the period of the new CM, Jayalalitha.

The main reasons for the power cuts in our state are :
Theft of Power:- Power thefts by factories, farms etc. are increasing and remedial measures are expected to be taken at appropriate levels.
Non-Stringent/Over-usage of power by the Consumers/Public:-
Awareness must be created in the minds of the consumers, to use power stringently.
Wastage of Power in Functions: Both in the private functions and public functions steps must be taken to reduce over-use of decorative lights etc.
Shortage of Power Generation/Supply:- At Neyveli, the workers are on agitation/strike on various demands, which affects thermal power generation.
• Tamil Nadu is at present getting only 7,195 MW of power against the requirement of 8,000 MW.
Wind mills are supplying 1,500 MW
• Hydel sources 1,000 MW
• Thermal 2,520 MW
• Power stations using gas are generating 321 MW.
• The state is getting 1,754 MW from the central pool, besides 100 MW from Kerala.
At present power cuts have been implemented in all parts of Tamilnadu, in the following rates.
• In Chennai city- 90 minutes
• In sub-urban areas- three hours
• In other places six hours

Many of us blame the government for the power cuts, but actually we are to blame ourselves also. Our carelessness is also one of the reasons for the shortage of power. We have to be more aware about conservation of power. We have to keep in mind that electricity is generated mainly from non-renewable sources. There have been measures to generate it from renewable sources which haven't been so effective and are still to be implemented.

Please CONSERVE ELECTRICITY.
That means whenever you see a fan running with no one in the room, u know what to do. :)

Please wake up others also...

iPhone 4. In so many ways, it’s a first.
Watch the iPhone 4 video

While everyone else was busy trying to keep up with iPhone, we were busy creating amazing new features that make iPhone more powerful, easier to use, and more indispensable than ever. The result is iPhone 4. The biggest thing to happen to iPhone since iPhone.

Facetime

People have been dreaming about video calling for decades. iPhone 4 makes it a reality. With just a tap, you can wave hello to your kids, share a smile from across the globe, or watch your best friend laugh at your stories — iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 or to the new iPod touch over Wi-Fi. And it works right out of the box. No other phone makes staying in touch this much fun.

Two cameras,
two views.

iPhone 4 has two cameras: One on the front, which focuses on you. And one on the back, which focuses on everything else. FaceTime lets you switch back and forth between them at any time during a video call. All you have to do is tap a button.

Retina Display

The Retina display on iPhone 4 is the sharpest, most vibrant, highest-resolution phone screen ever, with four times the pixel count of previous iPhone models. In fact, the pixel density is so high that the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels. Which makes text amazingly crisp and images stunningly sharp.

Multitasking

iPhone 4 introduces a whole new way of multitasking. Now you can run your favorite third-party apps — and switch between them instantly — without slowing down the performance of the foreground app or draining the battery unnecessarily.1 This smarter approach to multitasking is available only in iOS 4.
